what i’m loving & what i’m missing

computer is officially fixed. πŸ™‚ still not sure i’ll keep up with blogging very often because i’m crazy busy with studying for AFFA and work. Since getting my position as the Service Desk Coordinator at the gym I work at, I am in charge of everything that is related to the service desk. and that includes hiring. and we need people. interviews next week!

this week in exercise:
Monday: teach step n’ tone
Tuesday: teach step n’ tone
Wednesday: teach step n’ tone
Thursday: bodyattack
Friday: bootcamp

Teaching step 3 days in a row killed my legs! but i loved every second. I’ve really grown to love teaching group fitness & i’m so excited to be getting certified through AFFA to be able to teach anywhere!

i’m 10 days in to paleo & still doing awesome! you can see the other girls who are in the challenge and their progress over at Jenna’s blog.
things i’m loving about it:
more energy (I hardly ever take naps!)
– losing weight (this wasn’t really a goal, but clothes are fitting amazingly)
– clearer skin
– less night binge eating
– these pancakes:

made with these ingredients:
2 tbsp coconut flour, 2 tbsp coconut milk, 1 tbsp flaxseed, 2 tbsp applesauce, 1 egg white, 1 egg, blueberries, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp baking powder
topped with almond butter thinned with coconut milk & unsweetened shredded coconut

i eat these almost everyday. plus they keep me more full than.. OATMEAL.

but i do miss my oatmeal..

other things i’ve been loving on paleo:

and things i’ve been missing..
tortilla pizzas..

and i am cheating……by drinking iced coffee. yep.

too delicious to say no.

this will make you sweat.

well, it’s been almost a week now since i started the whole30 paleo challenge.
i’m still feeling really really good. so much more energy and focus.
i used to have such a cloudy mind & feel tired/exhausted most of the day, but my mental clarity has been great.
and…..i lost 2 pounds! in a week! plus a .3% body fat decrease.
i haven’t changed my exercise habits..at all. so this is all about the nutrition. i may have to make this paleo thing a lifestyle. i think i would allow cheat days though. i don’t think it’s healthy to deprive yourself, but i also am starting to understand how awful those foods make me feel. (dairy, grains, and sugar.)
i think i’d choose feeling awesome 100% of the time rather than feeling good for 20 minutes because of how “tasty” a meal is.
eat to live. don’t live to eat.

well besides my paleo eating..i’ve also been getting some good workouts in while giving myself rest days. todays workout was brutal.

THIS WILL MAKE YOU SWEAT

warm up: run 1/2 mile
dynamic stretches

Circuit #1: (2x)
Ball jumps – 30 each leg (start in plank position with hands on a medicine ball and jump to the side and back to plank)
Line jumps – 100 (i used a line on the track and jumped back and forth over the line)
Ball slams – 30 (14 lb medicine ball)
8 sets of stairs

Circuit #2: (2x)
Military press – 30 (8lb dumbbells)
Suitcases – 30 (8 lb dumbbell)
Jump squats – 30
Run 3 laps (.25 mile)

Circuit #3:
Spider plank – 30 each leg
Overhead squat with barbell – 30 (25 lb barbell)
Split squats – 30 each leg
Tuck jumps – 30
Up, up, down, downs (in plank position – hands to elbows) – 15

10 minutes of core+stretch
I did:
50 crunches
10 roll ups
50 situps
25 bicycle crunches
dead bug with slow leg lifts 5 each leg
plank hold 30 sec
side plank 30 sec each side

i was dripping by the end of this. such a great work out. it’s actually a repeat bootcamp workout we did in march. i remember hating it. but you feel so accomplished when you finish it. πŸ™‚

i refueld with a “skin saver” smoothie made with…
3/4 frozen mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, & blackberries)
1/4 avocado
1 cup almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp agave nectar
2 tsp wheat germ (i’m not sure this is allowed on the “whole30” challenge. should’ve used flaxseed, but i wanted omega 3s)

delicious.

now onto studying the AFAA fitness book so i can get certified next month!!! πŸ˜€

paleo day 6

I really wish I was keeping up with blogging and taking photos, but without a computer it’s kind of hard to do.
Still haven’t gotten it fixed yet. Haven’t had lots of time.
On my to-do list.
it will just have to follow the more important things. πŸ™‚

I am on day 6 of the whole30 challenge and feel pretty good! It’s actually been helping me eat a TON more vegetables and the meat isn’t so bad….

I finally got over the carb flu. I was really having withdrawal from my oats, tortillas, and bread. I’m feeling better, though.

I’m really glad I can still have almond butter because I’m pretty sure I would go crazy without nut butter.

PS I’m not following it entirely. I’m still drinking coffee. and I’m using small amounts of whey protein here & there because I just can’t afford to buy organic meat for every meal or a different kind of protein powder like brown rice or pea.
Still been eating sweet potatoes, too, but i think that’s okay?Β  Been eating them like it’s my job actually.

Alright, so enough of that. Hopefully by next week my computer will be fixed and I can share all the recipes I’ve been making like crazyΒ & other enjoyments.

so far so good

not very fun to blog when you don’t have your own computer. i should really take mine in, i just keep procrastinating.

paleo eating – so far so good. minus a few things.

advantages:
lots of energy; no feeling the need to nap.
meals are very filling, no need to really “snack.”

disadvantages:
not being able to fall asleep.
i really miss my oatmeal.
meals take a lot of planning ahead of time and don’t work so well when you get called into work unexpectedly.

i don’t want to give up. πŸ™‚

day 1

this is going to be real short. with no pictures. unfortunately, i crashed my computer last week and i cannot figure out what’s wrong this time. luckily i put everything on a hard drive, but now i need to take it in to see what’s wrong.

this past weekend was my birthday and i had a lot of fun! it was a success. although, i didn’t feel so good yesterday…haha.

today is the day that i start the whole30 challenge! day one of paleo starts now. i will not be giving up coffee though. πŸ˜€

my breakfast was paleo “pancakes.” i was going to make something with eggs, but im just not a huge fan of savory breakfasts. maybe another day this week.

for my paleo pancakes i used 2 tbsp coconut flour, 2 tbsp flaxseed, 1 egg, 1 egg white, baking powder, cinnamon, unsweetened applesauce, and 1 tbsp raisins.

they turned out delicious and i am surprisingly very satisfied.
a little sad i have to say goodbye to oats for 30 days though…

off to work on some things for my class i teach today! hopefully ill be able to post better posts soon!

WIAW

yay it’s wednesday! half way through the week and thank you to Jennifer over at Peas & Crayons for this link party πŸ™‚

first up… breakfast of course. yesterday was a bowl of banana whipped oats made with almond milk and topped with cinnamon, chia seeds, and peanut butter. obviously this will be one of the biggest things for me to give up when i start paleo next week!

this morning i had gina’s breakfast cookie dough cereal made with 1/3 cup oats, 1/2 scoop protein powder, 1 tbsp pb, and topped with 1 cup almond milk, frozen berries, and 1/2 cup fiber one cereal.

yep. breakfast will definitely suck when i start the whole30. (i’m not a savory breakfast eater at all..oh well, i’ll get creative!)

snack: unpictured greek yogurt mixed with cinnamon, honey, and raisins. (finally finished the yogurt! 1 out of the million other dairy things in my fridge….)
1/3 clif bar. i took a bite just because.

next up… lunch. repeat of broccoli slaw “pasta” i had the other day.
very paleo friendly minus the feta cheese i sprinkled on top! (finished that off to…yay almost there)

1 cup broccoli slaw sauteed in olive oil added to 1/2 cup tomato pasta sauce, diced tomatos, ground turkey, and onions

snack: green apple with pb protein sauce (1 tbsp pb, 1 tbsp protein powder, 1 tbsp almond milk, cinnamon)

dinner from tuesday: gina’s whole grain crepes with veggies stuffed inside.

dinner from wednesday: pita pizza topped with pasta sauce, spinach, mushrooms, jalapeno peppers, & cottage cheese

So this post was really late because my computer decided to crash last night. yeah not too excited about that one. have no idea what’s wrong with it so I have to take it in. blahhh

operation: get rid of my food before the paleo challenge.

I have decided to try the Whole30 which is 30 days of eating a paleo diet.
My downfall for starting this week like everyone else with Jenna over at The Paleo-Project is that I went grocery shopping a couple days before it started. I of course got dairy. and peanut butter. and grains. So I am going to start once all the non paleo foods are gone. πŸ™‚ (At least the ones that would go bad. I hate wasting food, people.)

So here’s my monday day of eats in case you’re interested…

Breakfast: 2 Kashi 7 grain waffles with mashed banana in between and drizzled with protein peanut butter sauce. (1 tbsp pb mixed with protein powder and almond milk)

Lunch was paleo-friendly: “broccoli slaw pasta” made with broccoli slaw, onions, ground turkey, and pasta sauce. I did top with feta cheese.

Snack: green apple slices topped with greek yogurt mixed with tsp pb & cinnamon

dinner: tortilla pizza! made with lots of veggies, feta cheese, hot sauce.
